I'm interested in 1.32e source

Postby OrbitaL-S2D » 2016-02-24 04:44:06

What is the history of the source?

I'm curious because I would like to start a project and ioq3 has become very bloated... I like sdl and curl but whatever they have added recently has made it bloated for lack of a better word.

Why couldn't they just keep it simple..

Thanks

Its based on last non-SDL ioquake3 source tree
Because SDL introduced some keyboard regressions, also it reduces native window control in favor of portability (I don't think that anyone will play this game outside of PC/Windows-Linux market)
At the same time, using cURL is a really good idea because it separates time-critical game trafic and download traffic
Why couldn't they just keep it simple..

Many opinions

So it's similar to cpma cnq3? What about openal?

IIRC cnq3 abandoned long time ago, here is my own change list, copy-paste from ESR:
- native 64-bit support (x86 windows/linux)
- unlagged (raw) mouse input with overflow protection
- additional bind keys (windows, scrollock etc), ability to press all keys [excl.Esc] during demo playback
- in_minimize hotkey (easy hide/restore, win-only)
- keyboard behavior equal for windows and linux clients
- fast downloads via smb(windows share)-redirection for lazy people :) -> \dlmap & \download commands
- smart server restart technique for long non-stop game series
- GTV-compatibility switch (sv_levelTimeReset)
- improved gfx smoothness, hardened qvm filesystem layer
- some additional speed optimizations and bugfixes
- ALSA support
